Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Depuria is a Mac maintenance app built to be private by design. Your scans run on your Mac, and your files never leave it. Depuria is free, has no accounts and no payments, so this policy is short: the only data that can ever leave your Mac is what you explicitly opt into — AI assistance, anonymous usage counters, or a message you choose to send me.
1. Who we are
Depuria ("we", "us") provides the Depuria macOS application and the website depuria.com. For any privacy question, contact [email protected].
2. What stays on your Mac
The core of Depuria runs entirely on your device. Disk scans, cache and storage detection, duplicate and large-file analysis, uninstall, startup and diagnostics data are processed locally and are never uploaded. Depuria never deletes anything without your explicit confirmation, and removable items go to the Trash so you can recover them.
3. The AI Advisor (optional)
- Bring your own key: when you choose a provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, a local model, etc.) and enter your own API key, Depuria sends a compact, redactable summary of your system state (metrics and scan totals) to that provider using your key. We are not in the loop. Your key is stored in the macOS Keychain on your device, never on our servers.
4. Anonymous usage sharing (optional, off by default)
Depuria records a few counters on your Mac so you can see what it has done for you: time spent per section, how often each one is opened, scans run, and space reclaimed. This is local and always available to you under Settings → Your usage.
Sending those counters to me is off by default. If you switch on Share anonymous usage, the app uploads them about once a day so I can tell which features are worth building on and which nobody opens. Before you turn it on, Settings shows you the exact JSON that would be sent — not a description of it.
From version 1.2.1, Depuria also asks you once, after you have used it a few times, whether you want to share. Declining, or simply closing that question, leaves sharing off — only the button that says so turns it on, and you are never asked again either way. That prompt shows the same exact JSON, and you can change your mind at any time in Settings.
- What is sent: a random identifier generated on your device, the app version, your macOS major version, architecture, language, launch count, whole hours in the app, and the per-section counters above (minutes rounded, space in GB).
- What is never sent: file names, paths, app or process names, serial numbers or any hardware identifier, your IP address (the receiving server never reads or stores it), or anything the AI Advisor handles.
- The identifier is a random UUID created on your Mac. It is not derived from your hardware, so it cannot be linked to you, to another app, or to a previous installation. Choosing Reset usage data erases everything and generates a new one.
- Feedback you send from within Depuria is only ever sent because you pressed Send. Your email is optional and used solely to reply. Attaching your usage counters is a separate tick box.
- Data is received by a Cloudflare Worker on infrastructure I control, and is never sold, shared or used for advertising. Switching the toggle off stops all sending immediately.
5. No accounts, no payments
Depuria is free and has no accounts, licence keys or purchases, so there is nothing for us to store about you — no email, no customer id and no device identifiers. The app runs without contacting us at all unless you turn on the optional sharing described in section 5. If you choose to donate, that happens on a third-party platform we do not operate and whose privacy policy governs it; we never see your payment details.
6. Website
depuria.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. We don't run advertising or cross-site trackers. Your host provider may process basic, aggregated request logs for security and performance.
7. Data retention & your rights
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing to retain, export or delete. If you have a question about privacy, email [email protected].
8. Children
Depuria is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "last updated" date above. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
